Venus Through the Zodiac Signs: the 12 Astrology Love Languages.

How does your Venus shape your Love Language? Astrologers look to Venus in the chart, the sign it’s in and the aspects to it, to describe ones style of relating. Venus is key when it comes to understanding how one easily (or not) accepts love. A symbol of peace and cooperation, it is about the give and take of love, who we value enough to love, and other such things of worth such as art, beauty and money.

The mythology

Venus, or Aphrodite to the Greeks, bestows many life-creating images, and notably the goddess is depicted rising from the sea on a crest of foam, naked, upheld in a scallop or oyster shell, as a fully formed deity ready to fulfil her role in the forces of attraction. The Goddess could make any god or mortal fall in love with her. She came to charm, to even inspire obsession. We don’t have to look far to find Aphrodite today, in the night sky, after the moon, it is Venus that shines the brightest and foods that are supposed to inspire sexual desire such as Oysters are aphrodisiacs.

The power of Aphrodite is irresistible…

She moves through the air, she dwells in the

sea-wave, she plants the seed and brings that

love from which all of us on this earth are born.

To explore Venus in our charts means to invite the question: where in your life is it easy for you to give, and where is it most difficult. What do you share with others and what do you not share? Talent, value, appreciation, pleasure and money all fall under Venus’s rule and as aspects offer the path to greater insight, we can also look to the zodiac sign in which she resides to help describe the style of her expression in your life. Let’s take a look at Venus through the signs…

Venus in Aries

There might be a theme of competition around love, perhaps being fought for or fighting for the affections of another. Aries rules the head and is the ‘baby’ of the Zodiac, being the first of the 12 signs, and so there is a tendency to fall ‘head first’ or fast for another. There is a need to feel independent in relationships, so that you remain self-focused, to put yourself first, and not compromise too much. You might attract partners who seemingly want to give you the world so it is clear that you do come first. Others might be attracted to your directness and impulsivity. You might favour a strong bold appearance, perhaps favouring the colour red.

Venus in Taurus

There might be something notable about the voice of this Venus person. Taurus is ruled by Venus so the pleasure principle of all fine things will resonate, especially being drawn to luxury textures, or a strong appreciation of the arts or music. To appeal to their nature, gifts like perfumes, or silks will be valued- anything to draw on the senses. Unlike Venus is Aries, Taurus doesn’t like anything rash in romantic matters. They are steady in relationships (unless aspects say otherwise) and creatures of comfort. There is a strong need for affection but they will withstand a relationship after affection has long grown out but will miss this key part of connecting. As an Earth Venus, there is a strong financial awareness here, as money and material assets are greatly valued. They won’t easily hand over their shares and they’d appreciate someone who can provide the same financial security. They like to own their own property. A strong love of food features here also.  A well-cooked meal at home will be particularly pleasurable to this slow and luxuriating Venus.

Venus in Gemini

There is a non-committal tendency about the Venus in Gemini person. Partners may come and go and there’s a desire to keep ones options open. Mental stimulation is key to their affection, and if they find themselves getting bored, they can move on rather quickly unless other factors in the chart suggests otherwise. Matchmaking is a skill here, making light connections easily driven by a curiosity to meet different types of people. There is usually a tendency to shy away from emotional displays of romance. This Venus values thinking, ideas and communication and can talk with elegance as they appreciate language and education but is also the sign of ‘sweet nothings’ given Mercury’s tendency to be all talk. There might be something attractive about the voice or being attracted to the way one communicates. Love letters might feature.

Venus in Cancer

Venus in Cancer finds value from family and deep emotional connections. Appealing to their sense of belonging and ancestry is important. They might exude a homey and caring nature. They love by protecting those close to them and there can be a tendency to revisit partners and past relationships, even if they continue to show incompatibility. Going backwards can be insightful to the Venus in cancer person, as they often learn about relationships in hindsight. There is a clingy nature sometimes and they tend to show their appreciation in the form of meaningful sentimental gifts. They offer a sense of belonging and will attract those in need of a foundation, a home. Cancer rules the chest, and often the torso of the person is an attractive feature.

Venus in Leo

What a Leo Venus appreciates the most is to be acknowledged and so they have a knack for shining their light and playfulness on you so that you in turn notice them. Leo is the sign of heart and courage, and values super hot spotlight attention. Generosity and warmth are traits and if they are getting enough attention to make the big cat within purr, they will be loyal, passionate and protective. Matters of the heart are usually dramatised and there is a real love of entertainment and performance. There is a show-off tendency to this Venus and if they themselves are not the glamorous ‘trophy’ then that is what they attract, someone to show off like a possession, as love needs to invoke the Lion’s sense of pride. This can be a very financially -savvy placement as it has associations with banking, and classically, this Venus loves jewellery and other high-value possessions.

Venus in Virgo

There is a wholesomeness and a kindness about the Venus in Virgo person, who favours understated yet beautiful made clothes, and who might be attracted most to those that feel they are somewhat ignored. Virgo sees potential in everything and might even try to improve you, carefully, given their talent for discernment and critique. This service-natured person might find they attract people at work where their helpful yet slightly critical eye is on display. They appreciate attention to detail and will find this attractive in others. They appreciate understatement, (unless Leo is present) and will sort the wheat from the chaff, picking out what is useful and valuable and discarding things that are of no interest to them. This discernment can make them affective in the art world or any other role where they are analysing and valuing. Taking care to not overspend, and given their careful and modest nature, Venus here can be good with money.

Venus in Libra

Venus rules Libra along with Taurus and so is naturally at home here emphasising the value of relating and beauty. In this partnership loving sign, Venus in Libra values relationships of all kinds, and likes to please other people. This is the sign most associated with marriage and other serious commitment and there is a need to keep relationships of all kinds peaceful and cooperative, as they don’t like to be without partnership. They tend to be good negotiations and mediators yet lack assertiveness and decision making in a relationship as everything with Libra is to be shared and reciprocated. Inward-looking Aries says ‘I want what I want’, whereas Libra on the opposite side of the zodiac, focused on the other says; ‘I want what you want’. They can push their own needs aside and they rarely put themselves first in relationships. Venus here values all things of worth and beauty and will be attracted to the elegant and cultured type or may exude these qualities themselves. Money can be made from partnerships of some kind.

Venus in Scorpio

As Libra works to keep relationships cooperative, Scorpio mines the deep single bond, fixated and intimate, a deep emotional connection usually features. Because of the intensity of their feelings, Scorpio treads carefully into relationships, moving past initial distrust into a relationship that can have a possessive quality on either side. Nothing is met half way, there is usually an all in or all out feeling and their relationships can have an element of drama, resentment or revenge. Oftentimes they find themselves fighting for the relationship. This might mean the person is attracted to seemingly forbidden partners, of a different culture or religion, or an age-difference for example. They are attracted to mysterious types, or might exude that mystery themselves. Competition can also feature in relationships of all kinds. This is usually a placement that doesn’t like to share.

Venus in Sagittarius

This sign placement of Venus loves all things fun and adventurous in love and there is a great deal of humour and lightness about this sign. Shared moral values are particularly important in relationships as well as sharing an appetite for adventure and experiences other cultures. This person might be attracted to all that is foreign as there is a love of travel and learning of other cultures and beliefs that is central to the Sagittarius spirit. There might be a preference for relationships to be kept casual (unless other planets in the chart say otherwise) as they value freedom. At times there’s a tendency to believe one could be happier if they moved on. There can be a religious or moralistic streak in this placement, usually a craving for more spiritual experiences in life. Sagittarius is the sign of travel and so money can come from international relationships and overseas opportunities or working with those from other countries, and cultures.

Venus in Capricorn

Venus here attracts others with their professionalism and classic sense of style. The little black dress is usually the go-to. There’s a reserved and fuss-free quality about Capricorn, and those with Venus here are drawn to industrious and serious types, or they exhibit those qualities themselves. It’s common for those with a Capricorn Venus (or a Saturn Venus connection) to value older partners, or someone who takes the role of teacher. Some might marry for social status or a secure financial future. Venus loves and appreciates the material world and values their resources putting it to good use to build a solid foundation and as such can take great lengths to make a relationship work. Well behaved and dignified in love, they take responsibility for their relationships, and are highly dependable. There might be something notably beautiful about the bone structure or teeth.

Venus in Aquarius

Venus in Aquarius places a lot of importance on friends and love needs to be based on friendship foremost and so it carries a laissez-faire attitude to romance, favouring a friendly and detached style to intimacy. There can be a tendency to stay single and independent or to keep romantic interests at arms length. It is this aloofness that lies at the centre of their charm. What is also attractive is their quirkiness and perhaps they dress uniquely, never focusing on trends. Venus in Aquarius women might have a love of suits, and men might favour more traditionally feminine clothes such as blouses and necklaces. It is their uniqueness that is attractive to others, and their originality. They are the kind of lover to mix with everyone, and prefer those that bring something different to the table. As long as you can spark their imagination, they are more interested in the inner person, their mind, especially those that help people make some sort of progress in their lives or stands for what they believe in. Money can be made (and lost) though websites or digital assets and there’s usually value placed on technologies and life-enhancing gadgets.

Venus in Pisces

Pisces is the sign most related to classical arts and cinema and so there’s a wistful romantic quality to this Venus person. There might be a tendency to fall in love with the idea of someone, usually mysterious and poetic with little information about them to go on. Venus in Pisces can dissolve into their love of music and dance and perhaps carry this lost sensation into their relationships. They do not treat others possessively (unless Scorpio is involved) and can therefore be the sign most likely to have an open relationship, so that themes of sacrifice and surrender are explored in their intimate lives. Often they want to devote themselves to someone and might find they attract those that need rescuing in some way or perhaps they themselves present as the damsel in distress. Either way, they can be shy of commitment as the Pisces way is one of endless opportunities and they don’t much appreciate a door fully closed. There’s value placed on being free of contractual agreements and sometimes there’s a lack of transparency around finances. Given the symbolism of fish, one values the tail end and this can signify a love of shoes, and dancing in particular.
